How I Clean My Makeup Brushes

Friday, 30 September 2016

A chore that we all hate to do but know it has to be done, cleaning our makeup brushes! I dread having to do this and try to use every other brush I have just to hold out that little bit longer so I don't have to wash my brushes. If your anything like me and don't really enjoy cleaning your brushes and the time it takes keep reading and I will tell you how I clean my brushes quickly and effectively...

I generally spot clean my brushes in between washes so they are somewhat a bit cleaner and hopefully not as much bacteria living in them. So when I find the motivation to actually clean my brushes fully I use a natural baby shampoo (The one picture was just from my local IGA) and my Sigma express brush cleaning mat* that I love to death. I spoke about the Sigma brush cleaning mat before in a favourites here if your interested, it has cut my cleaning time down almost in half and also I have seen a huge improvement with the cleanness of my brushes.

The process is pretty quick all I ever do it wet my brushes, brush them in shampoo and then move them back and forth over my mat until the water runs clean from them and they do actually look clean. I then put them all in a row on my bench top to dry before putting them away and using them again. Simple hey!

As I mentioned above the Sigma express cleaning mat is what has helped cut my cleaning time almost in half, I did think it was just a gimmick in the beginning but now after I have used it I can actually see the difference it has made. The mat has different sections that are labeled with what they are for like wash face or rinse eyes, the groves are designed to really get into your brushes to pull out the dirt and excess makeup to give them a better clean. If your interested in this cleaning mat you can purchase it here from Sigma for around $33.00 AUD.

What do you use to clean your makeup brushes?

  2. That mat sounds brilliant! I got the Sigma cleansing glove recently but I haven't had a chance to try it yet, I wonder how it compares to the mat...
